PTA Officer Job Descriptions

Our children's success is relying on parents volunteering their time. Whether it is in the classroom or in the office, whether you can commit to a year long position or just a few weeks in the year, you will be appreciated! Contact us if you see something you would like to do.

The following are brief descriptions of the leadership positions available to parent volunteers at Mohr through the PTA. 

 

President:  Includes the responsibility to lead the school PTA toward specific goals chosen by the membership. There are the following meetings the President must attend monthly: Executive Board, Association, Pleasanton PTA Council and the Parent Communication Council meetings.

Exec. Vice President: Serve as the primary aide to the President. Performs the duties of the President in the absence or disability of that officer to act.  Attend the above-mentioned meetings in the absence of the President.

Secretary:  Keep an accurate record of the proceedings of all meetings of the association and the Executive Board in a bound book, which is the legal record of the PTA.  Perform such other duties as may be delegated.

Treasurer:  Keep such permanent books of account and records of all receipts and the disbursements perform all bookkeeping and accounting functions of the PTA.  Prepare all financial reports, pay all authorized bills, and present monthly financial reports at the monthly membership meeting.

Financial Secretary: Deposit all monies received by the school PTA, keep accurate records of all deposits for filing with the Treasurer’s financial records for the Association.  Present a monthly report with the Treasurer’s report at the Association meetings. 

VP of Programs & Services: Oversees all fundraising activities approved by the Association.  Attends Committee meetings and reports to the Executive Board.  Stays current with upcoming grants, awards etc.

VP of Membership: Responsible for conducting a membership campaign.  Keep record of current membership.

VP of Legislation: Responsible for keeping membership aware of legislation in the State and National PTA.  Reports information from School Board meetings to the membership at the monthly Association meetings.

Parliamentarian:  Attend all meetings of the Association and of the Executive Board and give necessary advice in parliamentary procedure when requested.  Oversees the nomination/election committee and chair the by-laws committee.

 

Here are various Committees that you can chair or be a member to assist the Chairperson.

 

On Going Projects throughout the school year:

·        Computer Lab -- 45 minutes/week

·        Earthquake/Safety Kits -- assist w/ drills, inventory and distribute safety information

·        FAME (Fine Arts Mini Experience) -- present and discuss famous paintings, art and composers

·        Go Green -- promote recycling programs

·        Hospitality -- set up and decorate PTA meetings and school events

·        Library Helper -- 30 minute shift every other week to shelve books

·        Marquee -- update sign weekly

·        Newsletter Editor -- Compile and edit submissions for monthly school and PTA newsletter for publishing

·        Pizza w/ the Principal -- assist with monthly student luncheon

·        P.P.I.E. (Pleasanton Partners in Education) -- attend monthly meetings

·        Public Relations/Publicity -- create flyers for PTA events

·        Recycling -- occurs every other month; collection and redemption of plastic containers and aluminum cans; at least 45 minutes

·        Resource Helper -- work w/ resource specialist

·        Room Parent -- assist teacher w/ classroom activities

·        School Health and Wellness -- attend monthly meetings to be informed with various health issues concerning children.  Write health related articles for school newsletter

·        School Historian -- compile pictures and rosters of events in a scrapbook

·        Technology Committee -- help w/ purchases and implementation

·        Traffic Advisory -- attend meetings when necessary and work closely with Principal on traffic safety

·        Website -- manage and update school and PTA information on  website.

·        Wednesday Packets once a week for an hour to assemble packets to take home

·        Yearbook -- collect photographs and design layout for yearbook

 

Short term events/projects during the school year:

·        Art Show -- assist w/ labeling, matting and displaying of art work (May)

·        Auditor -- audit PTA financial records (Jan. & July)

·        Bingo -- organize and set up event; purchase food to be sold and prizes (Feb/April)

·        Book Fair -- attend  Scholastic Book Fair Workshop, meet with the Scholastic rep, recruit and schedule volunteers, promote book fair, set up books when delivered, work at the book fair, and prepare a financial statement at the end of the book fair. (Fall & Spring)

·        Fall Family Event -- organize activities (Oct.)

·        Field Day -- set up activities (June)

·        Geography Challenge  -- proctors needed for final challenge (May)

·        Gift-Wrap -- assists w/ gift-wrap sales/distribution (Sept. /Oct.)

·        Health Testing -- assist w/ health aide (Fall)

·        Heritage Event -- assist w/ booth and talent (Spring)

·        Ice Cream Sales -- sell ice cream on Fridays after school (Sept./Oct. & April-June)

·        Ice Cream Social -- assist w/ set up, decoration, scoop & clean up (Sept.)

·        Parent Potluck --  organize and set up luncheon for our parent community

·        Reading Day/Program -- organize volunteers from the community to read to students (March)

·        Reading Specialist Projects -- assist w/ special reading projects

·        Red Ribbon Week -- coordinate activities for drug awareness week (Oct)

·        Reflection Program for the Arts -- collect & submit student entries (Oct. & Jan.)

·        School Pictures -- sort pictures & prepare students for pictures (Fall)

·        Science Fair -- assist w/ preparation of school Science Fair (Mar.)

·        Spring Family Event -- organize activities for the Mohr community (May)

·        Student Directory -- compile student information for distribution (Sept/Oct) 

·        Supply Kits -- organize, purchase and distribute supplies to each class (July-Sept)  

·        Teacher/Staff Luncheons -- Organize luncheon for staff twice a year (Sept/June)

As a PTA member your input on programs and funds are valuable.  Please join the Exec. Board every fourth Tuesday of the month for the PTA monthly meetings.
